Gopher trapping in hard dirt

Gopher trapping in hard dirt is a challenge.  It has been a while since we had rain and it is making the dirt hard to find tunnels for setting gopher traps.  In areas with hard pack dirt that need gopher traps try watering the area first.

Let the water soak into the ground for about 20 minutes before digging out for the gopher trap.  Once the ground is softened by the water it will be much easier to dig and place the gopher trap in the tunnel.  Don’t use too much water and get it muddy.  Just enough to soften the soil is ideal.
